Gifts

Gifts for External Speakers and Supporters – Gifts intended to acknowledge or thank external speakers or other supporters of the College should not exceed $75 in value. Gift cards or gift certificates are not permitted, with the exception of gift cards to the Hornet Spirit Shop.

Gifts for Members of the College Community – The President’s Staff is responsible for providing gifts to members of the College community in recognition of significant life events—such as birth, death, or illness—as well as tokens of appreciation at retirement. (See the policy on Flowers and Gifts in Recognition of Life Events for additional guidance.)

Gifts from Individuals or Departments to Employees – Individuals or departments wishing to give gifts to College employees—for holidays, retirements, life events, or to recognize special contributions—must use personal funds. College funds may not be used for these purposes.

Gifts for Students – Gifts to students in recognition of special contributions or extracurricular involvement should be of nominal value, not exceeding $75. College funds may not be used to purchase gift cards or gift certificates, except those for the Hornet Spirit Shop.

Gifts for Student Employees – Gifts to student employees should be given infrequently and only in a manner consistent with IRS guidelines regarding employee compensation.
